From Cirque du Soleil to Grand Rapids, a creative force leads ArtPrize production into the future.
When Theresa Anderson stepped into the role of Director of Production and Operations for ArtPrize in March 2024, she brought with her a globe-spanning career—and a deep passion for creating moments that move people.
With roots in theatre, film, and live events, Anderson's resume reads like a highlight reel: Cirque du Soleil, Warner Bros., Disney. But it's not the names that define her—it's the drive to build experiences that connect communities and amplify creativity.
"I've always been drawn to work that brings people together through imagination," says Anderson. "ArtPrize is exactly that—this incredible collision of art, creativity, and community."
From the big picture planning to the smallest details of site logistics, Anderson is at the helm of producing an event that spans an entire city and touches thousands of lives.
Her impact was immediately visible in 2024 with the unforgettable appearance of David, a 35-foot-tall marionette that rappelled down the Amway Grand Hotel, astonishing crowds and sparking conversations about scale, wonder, and public art. In 2025, her creative vision continues with Arborialis, a 9,000-square-foot multi-sensory inflatable forest installation that transforms urban space into an immersive natural dreamscape.
In her first full year, Anderson has introduced new workflows, strengthened community partnerships, and embraced the creative problem-solving that comes with turning downtown Grand Rapids into a living art installation. It's a role that draws on every facet of her background, from the theatrical to the logistical.
As ArtPrize 2025 approaches, Anderson's steady hand and bold vision are already being felt in every corner of the festival. She may be behind the scenes, but the mark she's leaving is unmistakable.
ArtPrize runs from September 18 – October 4, 2025 throughout Grand Rapids. Make plans to attend! Learn more at artprize.org.
