Before a PAWS dog changes someone's life, countless people help shape its journey. For Amy and Garrett, that journey began nearly a year ago with NASH, a Paws With A Cause (PAWS) foster puppy.
Since welcoming NASH into their home as volunteer foster puppy raisers, Amy and Garrett have helped him build the skills and confidence he will need as he works toward becoming an assistance or facility dog. Through puppy classes, public outings, and everyday experiences, they’ve seen the level of dedication it takes to prepare a dog for a future working career.
This experience has also given them a deeper understanding of the impact PAWS dogs have on the people and communities they serve.
“We’ve seen firsthand the incredible work Paws With A Cause does,” Amy and Garrett shared. “Our time with foster puppy NASH has shown us how much time, care, and support go into preparing these dogs for the important work they’ll do one day.”
Their support for PAWS doesn't stop with raising NASH. This summer, Amy and Garrett are fundraising through their PAWS in the Parkparticipation and taking part in the event's 5K and 1-mile run, walk, or roll on August 6 at Millennium Park in Grand Rapids.

For the pair, PAWS in the Park is more than a chance to stretch their legs. It’s an opportunity to fundraise for PAWS while helping others understand the journey that begins long before a PAWS dog is placed with a client or facility. Every successful partnership is built on years of purposeful breeding, puppy raising, veterinary care, advanced training, and community support.
The funds raised through events like PAWS in the Park help support the journey from puppyhood to placement, making it possible for PAWS dogs to create greater independence, confidence, safety, and connection for the people and communities they serve.
Participants in the event can choose between a 5K or 1-mile run, walk, or roll, and pet dogs are encouraged to join in the fun. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and features a flat, fast course through one of Grand Rapids' most popular parks.
While some participants come to chase a personal best, others cheer on race participants and take in the PAWS mission while enjoying the beverage garden and vendor booths.
