Embody the Stars

Engage with the West Michigan Woman Community!

Have you ever wanted to see local celebrities dance, while raising money for a worthy cause?

You're in for a treat! EmbodyGR is hosting Embody the Stars, a ldance competition featuring professional dancers and Grand Rapids celebrities who will choreograph and perform original dance pieces on March 7, 2019, from 7:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. at the Goei Center.

The event emceed by local celebrities and community change-makers Shelley Irwin, host of The WGVU Morning Show, and Bridget Clark Whitney, Executive Director of Kids Food Basket. DJ Jay Vee will be there spinning tunes you won't be able to help but dance to. Hungry after all of that dancing? No worries! There will be heavy hors d'oeuvres—and a cash bar, too.

Started by Executive Director Dana Christian Lee in 2014, EmbodyGR is 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to building inclusive community, enhancing physical and mental wellness through yoga and meditation, and creating meaningful volunteer and service opportunities.

"My leadership upholds my vision that all people desire to feel valuable and part of something larger, that physical and mental wellness practices—yoga and meditation—should be available to all people regardless of their financial ability," said Lee.

EmbodyGR serves those with addiction, depression, anxiety, PTSD, chronic pain, health issues, loneliness, and isolation as well as adults and young adults who struggle with homelessness/housing instability, domestic violence, and LGBTQ issues. It also serves the underserved, at-risk populations, those who have simply fallen on hard times financially and emotionally, and anyone who may simply need a safe and healing place where they feel welcome and accepted as they are.

"EmbodyGR welcomes all people: people who are willing to live out our 'feel better, do good' mantra," said Lee. "People who each week do the hard work of showing up for themselves and each other; people who strive to grow and evolve; people who live lives of service in our community. People dedicated not only to their own personal journey of healing, wholeness, and happiness, but who know that their liberation is bound to the wellbeing of their brothers and sisters in Grand Rapids and across the globe."

Tickets for the Embody the Stars event are still available. Proceeds from the event benefit EmbodyGR, which hosts free weekly yoga and more gatherings.

Put on your best classy club attire. We'll see you on the dance floor!
