What's in a Name? Pride!

Engage with the West Michigan Woman Community!

The Lesbian Gay Community Network of West Michigan has officially changed its name to the Grand Rapids Pride Center. The Grand Rapids Pride Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit LGBTQ resource center that offers social and support groups, a Youth Homeless Program, an LGBTQ Resource/Business Directory, a Career Development Program and the Grand Rapids Pride Festival, the organization's largest event to celebrate and educate individuals on LGBTQ struggles, successes and contributions to the Grand Rapids community.

In recent years, the Grand Rapids Pride Center has restructured to modernize the Network's activities, added new social and support groups, increased the size of existing groups, and implemented regional outreach initiatives. These actions have created a stronger organization with a true stake in improving the lives of those in the local LGBTQ community.

The organization's name change aligns perfectly with its mission to empower the local LGBTQ community "through supportive services and awareness" and illustrates the Center's important initiatives. Mike Hemmingsen, board president, said, "We are excited about this name change as it will allow us to be more in line with today's diversity/inclusiveness initiatives and resources that we offer."

The Grand Rapids Pride Center aims to be the center of a vibrant and inclusive community that supports all LGBTQ individuals.

May 2016 marks the inclusive organization's 28th year in operation. Click here to learn more about the Grand Rapids Pride Center.
