Is There a Better Solution for Those Who Suffer in Silence?

Engage with the West Michigan Woman Community!

For most women and young girls, their monthly menstrual cycle has never been an event of joy.

Even with a normal regular period comes the concern of odor, leakage and irritation. With many, it can result in cramping, fatigue, moodiness, bloating, heavy bleeding, headaches—leaving some women and young girls with low self-esteem and severe depression. In addition, there is increasing evidence of ovarian cancer and endometrial pathology related to menstrual sanitary pads and tampons on the market today.

A report from the World Health Organization indicates that within two hours of a woman or young girl using a traditional pad, there will be about 107 different germs per cubic centimeter developed on the surface area of that pad. When pressure is applied on the pad from sitting, the pad allows the back flow of the blood back into the reproductive system.

Now, how can this be?

Studies have proven how menstrual pads in the marketplace are produced from recycled paper materials that contain print ink and other chemicals, which later go through a bleaching process with harmful chemicals like chlorine. When did paper materials become a good way to absorb blood? Both pads and tampons with odor neutralizers create a chemical soup—laced with polyester, artificial colors, adhesives and other contaminants that can be linked to hormone disruption, infertility, cancer and birth defects.

We all know about Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) with most tampons. When the chemicals in the tampon come in contact with your skin in the vaginal area, it's immediately absorbed directly into your bloodstream due to it being the thinnest skin on your body.

Keep in mind: All this time, women and young girls consider this normal for monthly menstrual cycles, which can last up to 30 or more years, depending on the age at which the menstrual cycle started. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) states on the average, a woman will have used over 15,000 pads or tampons on her body for 100,000 hours during the lifetime of her menstrual cycle.

Now that thinking is changing, with a newly launched sanitary napkin enhanced with "Noble Prize-Winning Graphene" material. The Graphene infused strip placed in the sanitary napkins may provide various health benefits that potentially:
