Fire up! Grand Rapids Downtown Market is about to get heated—Market Masters is back for seconds!

The Iron-Chef-style competition returns, Friday, June 16, from 7 to 10 p.m., pitting four teams of Downtown Market chefs and sous chefs against each other in a three-round cooking contest. Just like Iron Chef, each timed round will have a secret ingredient that chefs must include as they develop their appetizer, main course and dessert recipes on the spot.

"Even when given the same ingredients, it's anyone's guess what each team will come up with," said Amanda Gielczyk, director of marketing and special events.

While a new year means new contestants vying for the title of Market Masters, returning to defend their claim to fame as last year's Market Masters are Chris McKellar, owner of Love's Ice Cream and Rocket Pies, and Shelby Kibler, owner of Field & Fire. Both bring renowned experience in their crafts—and Gielczyk notes they're always looking to raise the stakes.

"We can say for sure that you'll be wishing you were one of the judges so you could sample all the dishes yourself," Gielczyk said.

You might not be able to sample the dishes, but tickets include a glass of champagne upon arrival and desserts from favorite Downtown Market vendors. There will also be a cash bar featuring fresh, specialty cocktails mixed with local spirits, brews and wines.

Gielczyk notes seats are limited and sell out fast! Get your tickets online today.
