What Differentiates You?

When was the last time you took a look at what really makes you stand out from your competition? Is there any difference at all, or are you competing on price alone? If you are different, what are those unique offerings you provide? For some, the answer to this question is very easy, for others, it’s quite difficult.

But here’s the real question—do you know the answer to these questions, or are you assuming you know the answers to these questions?
Here are four simple tips for making your company stand out:

  • Start by looking at the obvious differentials. This would include price, benefits, and physical differences.
  • Explore beyond the obvious. Be sure to look at your team, corporate culture, and other offerings that can be beneficial for your clients.
  • Don’t assume. Once you’ve created a list of all the things that make you different, don’t assume this is what’s important to your clients. Ask them.
  • Be open to what you hear. You might hear exactly what you need to change or improve, or you might find out you don’t need to do anything. However, listening and being open to making changes will foster better customer relationships.

It’s easy to come up with new and creative ideas to spice up your product offering, but are you sure that’s what your client wants? Be open to hearing what they have to say and providing that very thing…whatever it may be.
