When sun and sand get to be too much, there's always plenty of shopping awaiting you in Saugatuck/Douglas. Cool down with a few trips into some boutiques for sundresses, beach towels, and sunglasses—and find a way to put them to good use. Here are a few selections to pique your curiosity ...

LANDSHARKS is a super-fun, laid-back shop featuring the best in the outdoor industry, including Patagonia, Merrell shoes, and Oakley merchandise. You'll find luxury and fashion here, too, but the beachy vibe pervades.

Fun fact: The super-popular Michigan Awesome T-shirts are here.

THE PINK PATIO is a garden accent and home décor store with fun twists. Gardeners will love to stop in for quirky decorations, watering cans, and garden stakes amid indoor/outdoor rugs, candles, and a special line of seasonings.

Fun fact: The store carries a lot of U.S.-made products.

ALLE RUE NO. 133 is a French-inspired boutique with designer labels and loads of sophisticated apparel. Statement purses, hats, and accessories reflect the keen eye that has handpicked the merchandise.

Fun fact: The last time I was in they had the cutest weekend bag that I'll always regret not grabbing.

CHANTAL FASHION APPAREL is an escape into men's and women's fashions, with skinny jeans, stripes, florals, and an overall more sophisticated mix of lines, French Connection among them. Here you'll find looks that will never go out of style.

Fun fact: Chantal's Facebook page shows off the perfect skinny jeans for summer. I'm on board!

IT IS WHAT IT IS provides unique, affordable, fabulous items: home décor, handmade cards, jewelry, work by local artists, and more. This one-stop-gift-shop is known for its custom signs that can say anything.

Fun fact: Enjoy treats such as Palazzolo's Artisan Gelato and a handmade ice cream bar from Whitehall. Sit on the patio or walk to the end of the street and watch kayakers as you have a little something cold.
